- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 September 2021A versatile set of attractive, sharp kitchen knives - exactly what I was looking for! This is a versatile set of attractive, sharp kitchen knives. In the box: Included within the set is a chefs knife (primarily for meat), Santoku knife (general purpose), bread knife (you can guess this one!), utility knife (more intricate work such as peeling/mincing) and a paring knife (fruit and vegetable prep). Each knife has a plastic cover to protect you from the blade when they're not in use. Note: be sure to put these the covers the right way around or the bottom end of the blade is left exposed.Usage: I personally found the knives very comfortable to hold and use. The handles are well shaped with a curved designed to fit into your palm comfortably. The handles are also made from soft materials that ensure your grip doesn't easily slip. The blades themselves are very sharp and feature a non-stick coating that helps with cutting through all kinds of food.Design: These knifes have a design meant to look like cracks filled with gold. This is based on the Japanese technique of Kintsugi. It's certainly very different looking and I really appreciate it. The gold is not so bright it looks cheap and tacky, but instead it's a slightly burnt gold that looks great. The black is a stealth, matte black, which contrasts well with the gold. The blades themselves are more glossy and feature the subtle 'hecef' logo in white.Overall, I really liked the set. I think the design was absolutely awesome and quite unique. I felt the blades themselves were very sharp and I loved using them thanks to the comfortable handles. Essentially, everything I'm looking for in terms of kitchen chopping is included here.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 September 2021Decent blades, comfortable, soft handles - not bad for budget knivesI think these aren’t bad for budget kitchen knives (at time of writing priced at £19.99 for a set of 5, around £4 each). The set includes my two favourite knife types: a chef’s knife and a santoku knife. The knives all have pleasant-feeling, soft touch, sculpted, lightly-textured handles. These aren’t bad at all for the handles on budget kitchen knives. The knives come with fair quality plastic sheaths. The bread knife is decent and cuts straight. The chef’s knife and santoku knives are both sharp and make for beautifully controlled cuts and chopping (the chef’s knife made decent work of chopping garlic – something I rarely do these days, tending to favour a microplane grater). The utility and paring knives have sharp, compact blades ideal for e.g. peeling and removing the cores of apples.Although these arrived nicely sharpened, I’m not sure how well they will sharpen at home (using either a water sharpener or whetstone), this seems like something that may cause the black covering on the blades to chip. Dishwasher safe, although it is recommended that they go in a top drawer cutlery tray – not a style of dishwasher that everyone has.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 September 2021Decent set for less than a price of some single knivesI have another, similar set of knives from Hecef as well as some other products from the brand. I have to say they are all very well made and look very decorative. This set is no exception. The knives look really beautiful. I'd say they're great to just have them on display. The black matte blades are sharp and well shaped, with a nice logo. The handles are also black but have a yellow pattern that looks like lava coming out of shattered rocks. They are nicer than plain handles from my other set, but the blades on the other one have a blue, slightly irregular coating, that makes it look like the ocean (it's good it's blue, it would have looked gory with red). Each knife comes separately wrapped in foil and has its own sheaf. So they're really elegant but are they any good as kitchen utensils? Yes they are.The steel is 3Cr13 which means they have 0.3% of carbon and 13% of chromium added to steel. Carbon is responsible for the metal hardness (but not toughness) and it's on the lower end here. This means they should be easier to sharpen. Chromium above 11% means we are talking about stainless steel. It is a good basic blend that gives decent durability for an affordable price. The handles don't have any rivets but these aren't butcher knives or knives that are used in a restaurant's kitchen. They are home knives to be enjoyed by both skilled and amateur cooks. The £20 price for the whole set of 5 knives will cost less than a single 'heavy duty' knife. They sort of start at £25-30. They are quality knives, offering good variety and elegant style. I now have to decide which set goes on my magnetic holder and which I'll actually end up using as kitchen knives...Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.

I do marvel at how good some of these more affordable knife sets can be when compared to their more expensive counterparts. I do have a similar set to this from the same manufacturer which has been used on a daily basis in our house, these knives are almost identical except for a slight difference in handle shape. I have found that these are my go to knives, often neglecting knives that cost several times more just for a single knife.Out of the box these hold a good edge considering the asking price, the edge also seems quite durable as I rarely have to sharpen the previous set which I'm sure are the same knife but a different variation. In fact my previous set is £4 cheaper. What I particularly like is the thinness of the blades, they are super light to hold and will glide through most foods without issue. The little paring knife slices through tomatoes like a razor without having to squash and push the knife through the skin. To be honest this set is all that most will ever need in a kitchen, they certainly are a capable knife. There are 5 knives in the set which consists of: 8" Chefs knife, 8" Bread knife, 7" Santoku knife, 5" Utility knife, and a 3.5" Paring knife. The knives are supplied loose in a box, so no holder is included which is hardly surprising at this price. What I particularly like is that each knife is supplied with it's own tough plastic sheaf making each knife finger safe when stored in a kitchen drawer. The knives look quite stylish as they have a black coated blade which is durable and doesn't scratch or flake off. My existing knives I've had for at least 12 months, the Chefs knife is used daily and it's in the same condition as when I first received it. The handles are nicely shaped and are comfortable to hold, they are plastic with a soft silicone coating. The only negative I can find is that the balance is not great, due to the plastic handles they are slightly blade heavy but that's not really an issue for a knife at this price. My personal opinion is that these are a bargain for what you receive. The knives are lightweight and sharp out of the box, they hold their edge well and have good protective covers. Costing just £19.99, what's not to like? - RecommendedCONTENTS:1 x Chef's knife1 x Bread Knife1 x Santoku Knife1 x Utility knife1 x Paring knifeThank you for reading my review, I hope you have found it helpful.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 September 2021Definitely a cut above my old knives. Stunning value for £20. Sharp! One of our favourite meals is a piece of fresh salmon and in fact we eat so much of it that we have taken to buying the whole fish so that my wife can prepare it for the freezer. We really needed some sharp knives so that she could do the job safely so this set of five chef’s knives seemed to be ideal. We were pleased with the look and feel of these knives which have a non stick coating on the blade and very comfortable handles with a soft coating for a good grip. My wife put the knives to the test when we next had a salmon to fillet and cut into portions. She was delighted with the clean cut and precision that these sharp blades allowed and that they easily sliced through the salmon flesh. I was less delighted because I was seriously concerned that she would cut herself, but actually I believe they say that a sharp knife is a safer knife! These are certainly seriously sharp knives and they are a joy to use.The largest knife in this set is 8 inches and the smallest 3.5 inches so we now have a sharp knife ready for virtually any kitchen task. It's probably worth mentioning that if you want these knives visible on a kitchen rack that they do have very attractive gold lightning pattern on the handles. We will probably keep them safe in a drawer in their handy protective sheaths. These knives are well made, good looking and certainly as sharp as you would ever need and at around £20 excellent value. They carve out a very sharp 5 Stars!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2021As good as it gest for the price!Cannot fault this set, especially given that we were trying a couple of knife sets and these ones were literally a fraction of the price of some other sets. Ok, they are flimsier and thinner and more lightweight and you will not use them for ever and ever, as they will get thinner and thinner every time you sharpen them and the handles are hard and not moulded to fit into the palm of your hand perfectly, but... ad it is one big but... The whole set costs less than a quater of one professional knife, so it is amazing value for money! Amazing! And this set is great for rental properties, student accomodation, your holiday lets, or as a starter set. On that note - highly recommended!

A set of knives that really are good enough for everyday cooking prep for students. That’s the thing the set has a knife for all that you should ever need one for. Seems to be standing up to uni life and sharp enough for cutting chicken and other meat along with veg. The largest one has been put into knife sharpener over the last month but then again that’s to be expected with most knives. An economical way of buying a knife set for both home or student uni life. These stand out that bit more with being all one colour throughout too. Right now ideal.
