Who we are

7 Interior Design is a price-tracking and comparison site for UK home interiors, operated by Softpact. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us through the contact form.

What we collect, and why

If you create an account

Your email address, the name you choose to display, and a password — stored as a one-way hash, so nobody here can read it. If you sign in with Google instead, we receive your email address and display name from Google and never see your Google password. We need this to give you an account at all, so the legal basis is performance of a contract with you.

If you set a price alert

The product you are watching, the price you want to be told about, and the email address to tell. We check tracked prices against your target and email you when it is met. That is the entire purpose of the feature, and it is the contract you entered into by setting the alert.

If you use a wishlist

The products you saved, tied to your account. Visible only to you.

If you post a comment

Your comment, your display name, and the time you posted. Comments are public by design — treat anything you write in one as published. We keep them to run the discussion, which is our legitimate interest in operating the site.

If you message us

Whatever you put in the contact form, so we can reply. The form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which assesses whether the submission is automated; Google receives your IP address and some interaction data as part of that check. We use it because the form is otherwise unusable through spam — again, legitimate interest.

Whenever anyone visits

Our servers log the request: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, and the time. This is ordinary web-server logging and we use it to keep the site up, to investigate abuse, and to understand what is broken. We also use Google Analytics to see, in aggregate, which pages people find useful. See the cookie notice for how to switch that off.

When you click through to a retailer

Our /go/ links record that a click happened — which product, when — so we can tell which pages are worth keeping. If you are signed in, that click is associated with your account; if you are not, it is not tied to a person. The retailer then sets its own cookie to attribute any purchase to us. We never see your order, your payment details or what you bought. Our affiliate disclosure explains the commercial side.

What we never collect

We do not take payments, so we hold no card or bank details. We do not ask for your address, date of birth, or any special-category data (health, beliefs, and so on). If a form on this site ever asks you for one of those, something is wrong — please tell us.

Who else sees your data

Only the suppliers we need to run the service, and only for that purpose:

• Our hosting and email providers — to serve the site and send alert emails.
• Google — Analytics (usage statistics), reCAPTCHA (spam prevention on the contact form), and Sign in with Google if you choose it.
• Amazon — when you follow an affiliate link, under Amazon’s own privacy policy from that point on.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertising networks. Some of these providers operate outside the UK; where they do, transfers rely on the UK’s adequacy regulations or on standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

• Account data — until you delete your account, then removed.
• Price alerts — until you delete the alert or your account.
• Comments — until you or a moderator delete them.
• Contact messages — up to 24 months, so we have the history of a conversation.
• Server logs — a rolling window, typically weeks, then overwritten.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, hand it over in a portable format, or object to processing we are doing on legitimate-interest grounds. You can withdraw consent for anything you consented to, at any time, without it affecting what came before.

Ask through the contact form. We will respond within one month. Most of it you can also do yourself from your profile page — alerts, wishlist and account deletion are all in there.

If we get it wrong, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first, but it is your right either way.

Children

This site is meant for adults buying things for their homes. We do not knowingly create accounts for under-13s. If you believe a child has given us data, tell us and we will remove it.

Changes

When this notice changes we update the review date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects what we do with data you have already given us, we will say so more loudly than a date change.
