This sadly hasn't lived up to my expectations.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 July 2019
I genuinely don't know if this has any value as an air purifier. I have owned this for a couple of weeks now and usually use it on level 2 or 3 from a few hours a day up to all day, and having just looked at the filter, as yet it is showing no dirt. In comparison my old bionaire bap242 filter is currently grey from use. My chest and sinuses do not feel in any way improved, so I am quite disappointed with this buy to be honest, after other reviewers said they noticed immediate improvement in their symptoms. The unit does appear to be working correctly.I live in a quite rural area (my home pretty much backs on to a field) and there are no industrial works nearby anyway, so the air is probably quite clean, plus my floor is vacuumed every day by my robotic vacuum (Eufy BoostIQ 12 upgraded model if you want to read the review) and I also use my Henry vacuum every so often for a deeper clean, so I don't know how much I could realistically expect from an air purifier. The unit itself is said to clean 55m² an hour, I did actually ring Homedics themselves to confirm this, as the box said "suitable for small rooms" but 55m² will actually clean the air of my whole flat, so I was rather confused by this, but they did indeed say it will work for up to 55m² (not cubed which was what I had wondered based upon the "small" wording) based on a room height of 2.4 metres (not 2.5m as the blurb says.) The unit must be placed upon a flat surface, away from moist environments, and 16cm away from other furniture. It has 3 settings and a light indicator for when the filter needs changing. It is recommended that the filter is vacuumed once a month. Unfortunately the fan on the unit is always on (on my other unit this was optional) and whilst that has been great in the hot weather, as it provides a very powerful blast of cool air, in the Winter it will be much less welcome. The cold air does only come out of the back of the unit, but it will still be working against the central heating during the chilly weather. So, I am giving it another week, just to see if my sinuses/chest improve, however, I think this one may have to go back to Amazon.

    10 out of 10
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 January 2018
These are really good - I have breathing difficulties in November & December and (although my hairy dog sleeps in the same room) I put the bigger one of these near my bed & had the first good nights sleep I've had in months - 10 out of 10 - I now run one all night in the sitting room & one all day in the bedroom - hint - go for the bigger ones as they only need to run on a slower speed and hence the fan noise is quieter

Placebo effect more than the truly effective purification
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 August 2019
I’ve had this model since 2016 and changed filters more than once a year. What’s to like:Plain unobtrusive designCatches some dog hairWhat’s not to like:Shuts itself off - I want this to run 24/7 not randomly shut itself off after 6 hours or so.How effective is it really? I think this device has more of a placebo effect than purifying ability unless you live in a room the size of a matchbox. According to the monitors in the house, actual particulate removal in the area where this was operating were minimal.Summary: Now that we have Philips 3000 and 7000 air purifiers we can quantifiably see that the air quality is much improved. If you are an allergy sufferer you really need to look elsewhere and spend a little bit more money. We don’t even have bad allergies (mild seasonal / hayfever) but with a big fluffy dog we use them to remove pet smell, dander and hair for everyone’s comfort.

    Sent Back
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 October 2018
I can't say i'm overly impressed. I tried this for a week and noticed nothing at all. The filter seems really cheap and i can't see how it does what it suggests. The filters are also stupidly expensive to replace for what they are. There is no timer on this filter, so manual on/offIt is not as quiet as it suggest, you can not have this in your bedroom and sleepWhen mine was turned off i heard a high pitched buzzing noise, sounds dangerous so had to turn off at the mains. The above concerned me a little as I've read on how a few have burnt out.So yes, item sent back.

Air purifier from a reputable brand. Covid-19 protective measure?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 October 2020
this air purifier comes in 3 settings, the lowest still has a low whirr but its easy enough to fall asleep to because it doesnt really make a high frequency sound.it works pretty well, HEPA filter is easy to use, and unlike most chinese brands you can actually find the HEPA filters for sale from the seller on amazon and on their official website; thats a big plus because your not stuck with a useless air purifier.study's have proven that HEPA filters can actually stop particles far smaller than Covid-19 ( in the study they shot tiny silver particles at the filter) it filtered 100% of the particles. might not stop you catching it since most of the time its probably caught in close contact, but atleast it will lower your chances if coronavirus was lingering in the air. I personally think every home, business and government facility should be outfitted with air purifiers going forward.

I can breathe again and no more allergy tablets!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 October 2018
I took couple of weeks to use the purifier before writing the review. I have cats and didn't want to live my life on allergy tablets so gave this product a try. I have been able to breathe again after I first switched the purifier on! For over a week now, I haven't taken an allergy tablet - some sneezing is still there and it does depend on how long I have the purifier on, but my allergy is totally manageable now. It's been such a relief! The purifier definitely helps for the cats and also for any odours - the air in our flat has been really clean. It's a bit too noisy to have it working during the night but it's been enough to switch it on in the bedroom couple of hours before bed and to have it on in the living room during the day. I was a bit pessimistic in the beginning but now would definitely recommend the product (would only not recommend it if you need to sleep whilst it's on).

    Relief within 2 hours
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 June 2019
My Asthma and my partners C O P D has improved since having 2 of these and TV's don't attract much dust any. If you get a pet and find you are allergic get a couple of these before thinking of rehoming. It has been in the news about indoor pollution so these could answer along with using natural cleaning products.

    Ideal for asthmatics
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 December 2018
I’ve purchased this model after scouring the internet for the most suitable air purifier to help my breathing issues. It has made a huge difference, it definitely clears the room of allergens etc, and has had a positive affect on my personal breathing condition, I highly recommend it to others, also, it is excellent value for money, no need to be spending in excess thinking the product is superior, this product performs the same duties at a fraction of the cost, economical on electricity also.

Great dust extractor, air feels clean
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 October 2016
Great dust extractor. Been using for some time now - when it comes to cleaning the filter it's very evident this product works. If left on during the day, the room it's in feels clean to walk into.I am able to sleep with it on setting 1. Setting 2 is reasonably loud and setting 3 isn't pleasant if you are in the room. However it isn't to noisy if you are in another room - so you can leave it on high (3) during the day time and turn it down at night, if you are using in bedroom.

So far really good - substitute for a fan too!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 May 2020
I was not sure about this machine because Dyson and Philips sell similar ones for over £400! There ain’t no free lunch, right?Well, throwing about £80 away is not cool, but without bravery how will the world operate?I received this machine with hesitation but upon opening it, and seeing that it is not big at all, I was relieved. It is a nice rectangular shape, perfect for under my side table in the sitting room. Yes, I know you are supposed to put it in the bedroom, but the noise is loud enough to disturb me. Besides, we are living in a 70 m2 apartment! The filter is already inside, so there is no much ‘installation’ to do.The 3 fan speeds are easy to operate - just a slide switch on top. The fan has to be positioned the right way - the front (where the filter sits inside) faces outwards. You are supposed to leave a gap between the back of the machine and the wall, which is easily achieved.During the last week, I notice less dust. Pollen seems to disappear, because after a whole day of filtering, the pollen didn’t come in. I assume they have been sucked by the filter. All in all, and after one week I am very happy. The fan is now cooling my feet as I type. So an extra bonus. Would love to buy a Dyson fan, but budget during lockdown is limited.

Customer questions and answers

  • Most importantly , is it effective for dust mite dust??
Yes it will filter out dust in the air, mite dust being larger than pollen or smoke should get trapped by the filter quite easily. Hope this helps answer your question.
  • Will it stop dust build-up in rooms
My bedroom still gets very dusty but I only run the HoMedics HEPA Professional Air Purifier on its lowest setting during the night. Maybe if you ran it on its highest setting for an hour or two each day you might stop dust build up.
