Customer Review
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 August 2021Best thing ever. After having read the reviews of other purchasers ,I decided to buy one. It's brilliant, does exactly what it says. After having it in the bedroom for a few days ,I was sleeping better and waking up without coughing. The only downside is that any setting above 1 is a bit noisy. I leave mine on 2 all day then 1 at night. It works.

I can't live without a device like this. This is my second ioniser, but bigger and more powerful. This one doubles not just as a purifier and a fan, but as an air-freshener too, as there is a compartment for essential oils and just a few drops of your favourite scent on a special pad ( you are supplied with three) will make it spread all over your room. This device is stylish, compact, watch the video for noise level, it's super easy bro set up and use.One of the best things I have got in a long while and a must-have for me, as I sleep with windows open, get sore throat in the morning, but if windows are close, gasp for air through the night.I have left it on now, will keep it on over night and will update my review in the morning to tell you if it has made any difference to the quality of the air and improved my sleep.Night night.Update: slept like a lamb through the night with all the windows closed. Woke up , despite a bad cold from earlier on, with a light head and not all stuffed up .Definitely working.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 October 2019Clears a room quickly and efficientlyI tested this in a room in which my 'Awair' air quality meter was showing "red", i.e. high levels of micro-dust or particulates (i.e. PM2.5 & PM10) as well as chemical residues (VOC) in the air. To my pleasant surprise, being rather sceptical because this air filter is rather compact, it worked quickly and well, bringing my air quality meter back into the green reasonably quickly. So, yes, indeed, if I was suffering from an allergy to any kind of fine dust, such as grass or tree pollen, or even to mould spores, I think that this device would be sufficient to "clean" the air and remove the cause of my sensitivity and allergy.I think if I did suffer with hay fever or other allergy, along with buying a decent air quality meter – one that measures fine dust and particulates of PM2.5 and PM10 – I would buy something like this to clean the air once the meter shows it to be necessary. It would be necessary to keep the windows closed while the air was being cleaned if the pollen or whatever was entering from outside, which is most likely; in fact, keeping the room door closed is also recommended in the excellent instruction manual.Overall, compared with the very bulky air purifiers such as those by Philips, this one is far more compact and, as a result, perhaps, noisier in operation, especially on medium and full power – but not excessively so at all. Running this on “high” for an hour and then turning it down to “silent" mode would allow it to be used overnight (it isn't really silent, by the way, but I am a light and poor sleeper and had no disturbance while this was running).All-in-all, this is a good quality and effective air purifier.

So the air purifier has 3 speed settings, the first is really quiet, the second speed is okay too noise wise, the third and highest setting is the loudest and though would be okay for use during the day it may disturb some people if on that setting at night whilst they are trying to sleep. There is also an Ioniser as well, which makes the running sound a bit louder when on.I personally love the idea that you can add your own essential oils too. Would be great with some rose water for relaxing or eucalyptus if you have a cold too! It comes with spare pads to fit into the special slot in the side of the machine.I think it has a nice neat compact shape, yet at the same time feels sturdy. It feels well made and I think it looks good too. It's not something too intrusive looking. The filter looks sturdy too, not like some of these flimsy things some purifiers have.I like that it has the timer, as I haven't seen that before on any other air purifier.Having asthma and all year round allergies I really wouldn't be without some sort of air purifier, it helps me breath easier, so sleep better. A good side effect from having the slight noise it makes is that it also helps mask my tinnitus, kind of like a white noise. I think this will be a great addition to my bedroom and will help me sleep much better and probably longer too.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 October 2019Effective and well builtThis Homedics AP DT10 Air Purifier comes ready to use out of the box with a HEPA filter pre-fitted. Unlike many air purifiers, this one is designed with a horizontal profile and is about the size of a small fan heater (48cm wide and 22 cm high). The “out of the box” impression is one of a well-built product, it comes with a clear user guide, 3-year warranty and access to UK based support. The unit is recommended for rooms up to around 12 sq metres or 128 sq feet. The unit’s controls are logically laid out and it also sports both an ioniser and an essential oil diffuser (with 2 spare pads) plus a timer with steps for 4, 8 or 12 hours. There are three fan speeds and features that are selected are indicated by small blue LEDs. In addition, there’s a filter replacement light, filters can last up to 18 months depending on usage, it helps to vacuum the filter around once a month. In use the unit is very quiet on level 1 and not too loud on level 2, I’d say on both these settings you could sleep with it on unless you are a very light sleeper. Once you get to level 3 it’s a bit noisier but still not too noisy to have on whilst watching the television for example. The ioniser facility makes a subtle difference, the air appears a bit fresher with it on. I also like the oil diffuser, just 6 or 7 drops of sandalwood or a similar oil gives the room a subtle fragrance but you don’t have to use this feature.Changing the filter is easy and tool-free, you just click open the rear panel and lift the filter out using two tabs attached to it, the tabs also indicate the right way round to put the filter in. Replacement filters appear to be easily available and reasonably priced as are replacement oil diffuser pads.No product is perfect, and, given the size of the room it's designed for, this unit seems a bit expensive but it's well made and has UK based support. Also, although the blue LED indicator lights are small and recessed, there’s no sleep mode where you can turn them off which is contrary to the product information page. Finally, the horizontal layout takes up a bit more space than some vertical models although I like the design.I have been using this unit in my bedroom and it has proved effective, the air feels cleaner and fresher, plus I seem to sleep better. Overall, I like this Homedics unit a lot because of its effectiveness, features, layout and build quality.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2019COST EFFECTIVE AIR PURIFIERHoMEDICS DESKTOP AIR PURIFIER AP-DT10WThis is a portable mains air purifier measuring 33cm wide x 25cm deep x 22cm high. Whether this is correctly described as a “desktop” appliance is debatable – it is not a big machine as some air purifiers are but for me a bit large for a desk top. Certainly there is not enough room on my desk for it. Having said that, it is portable and easily moved from room to room as required. This purifier will manage mid sized rooms and will remove lingering smells that you may not want. It is a recognised fact that some unwanted smells become undetectable after about 15 mins unless you re-enter the room from outside the house. This will ensure you maintain a fresh atmosphere in the house. The manufacturer claims that this unit will remove 99% of pollen, germs, allergens, smoke and mould spores in addition to removing unwanted smells. It works literally straight from the box, just plug it in. Controls are simple to operate and understand. First the On/Off, then the three speed fan (and there are three small lights showing which one is in use), then we have an incorporated Ioniser which adds a fresh air touch, then finally a programmed timer which can be set for the purifier to run for 4, 8 or 12 hours. Again there are three pilot lights to show which is set. That's it, there is really nothing else to worry about. The filter fits into a large section at the back which is easily accessed via a clip on cover. The HEPA and carbon filter is replaceable (at £20) and the manufacturer advises a frequency of about 12 months. There is a small warning light on the front which should show the need for a new filter. On the left side there is a small “click out” chamber which houses a replaceable felt pad onto which can be added aroma oils to scent the air flow. They say four/five drops onto the pad but I found this totally ineffective. Three spare pads are supplied and even with 10/12 drops I found this barely noticeable unless you stand directly in front of the air flow. Spare felt pads are available from HoMedics (3 for £6.99).The unit is mostly white with a grey band across the front which makes it an attractive item. I believe this is also available in black. The unit carries a three year warranty, is well made and will prove to be a useful addition in any household. The AP-DT10 is not particularly expensive as air purifiers go but none of them are cheap. There are cheaper units available but I cannot really comment on how effective they are. This one IS effective. With three years warranty cover, it appears that this unit is going to last and therefore the cost can be considered as around £0.80 per week maximum. You have to make your own mind up whether you need such an item, they perform a valuable function although some will treat it as unessential. I think it would be uncomfortable without one.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 October 2019Kind of expensive for what it is, currently playing liveLIVERemaining Time -0:00 Playback Rate1xChaptersChaptersDescriptionsdescriptions off, selectedCaptionscaptions off, selectedAudio TrackFullscreenThis is a modal window. I have mixed feelings about this air purifier. I've seen other ones that are much more powerful and have larger filters for better value, but this does have a really nice aromatherapy feature and this is really nice. It also is super portable and fits on a desk nicely.Pros:- Super lightweight air purifier you could just move around the house or have live on top of a desk- Has a timer function so you can leave it going for hours- The three different fan functions cover most needs, with 1 being super quiet and 3 being louder but a nice low pitched rumble which I find relaxing- Has an inbuilt ioniser for extra purification (which is optional and controlled by a button)- Looks a bit like a hifi in shape - very futuristic and well designed- Easy to remove and replace filter at the back (you just pull the cover off and it clicks back on)- Long wire- Aromatherapy feature - a little oil pad tray is on the side, you just put some drops of essential oil onto the pad (avoiding getting any on anything else) and about 7 drops gives off a nice aroma in the immediate area. It's not a smell that fills the room but if you're in the airflow area it's refreshing (I find lavender works well). You also get two spare padsCons:- I don't like the physical buttons. They are very clicky and it gives the purifier a quite cheap feel- It's very expensive for what it is and the size of the filterSo a good, portable air purifier which would suit a desk or an office or small bedroom, but for the price you could get an air purifier that can deal with larger spaces. Plus I'd expect touchscreen controls for this price or a general softer, flatter user interface. But the aromatherapy might tempt you for this one and for that you'd be making a good investment.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 October 2019Recommended, although possibly a bit big for most desktopsWith allergies to dust mites and dog dander, as well as hay fever at various times of year, having a large German Shepherd / Alaskan Malamute cross, thick carpets, and living in a semi-rural location probably isn’t completely wise. However, sometimes we just have to do things that aren’t completely logical. Thankfully, air purifiers can make life much more comfortable. We already have one from a different manufacturer, plus a HoMedics TotalClean 5 in 1 Tower Air Purifier. Acquiring this HoMedics Desktop Air Purifier probably provides enough options for the house.I am not convinced that this HoMedics Desktop Air Purifier is really suitable for a typical desktop as it’s fairly chunky. I have a large, but busy (a.k.a. cluttered), desk on which there isn’t room for this device. Instead, I use the HoMedics TotalClean 5 in 1 Tower Air Purifier in my office, which also allows me to use the ioniser option without risking computer equipment and mobile devices that live on the desk. Instead, this HoMedics Desktop Air Purifier is now located in our bedroom. It is a bit noisy, and it does have a couple of little blue lights, but neither is so intrusive as to be a problem at night. The unit is portable enough that it also gets moved to other rooms for short periods to help address food smells etc.I like that HoMedics air purifiers contain carbon odour filtration which helps get rid of food and dog smells. This one does not seem to include UV-C technology, but would be a nice-to-have. Optional ionisation is handy, particularly for people with allergies to particulates. The fan has three operating speeds. It would have been good to have a night setting, that runs slower and quieter than the slowest of the three, but that’s not available unfortunately (the slowest setting is still quite noisy). The timer is useful too, although the shortest option is 4 hours. I would have liked options for 1 and 2 hours as well.If using near pets, remember that the ioniser can generate small amounts of ozone, which can be a problem for birds and small pets. Similarly, the option to use essential oils in a little tray on the side is best avoided, as dogs (and other pets) can be adversely affected by essential oils.Overall, this seems to be a very effective air purifier, particularly for small-medium sized rooms. Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 December 2019You get what you pay forThis product costs a lot, and you may think why would you want to buy something like this.I currently am studying at university in a large city, and compared to my countryside home the air quality is noticeably worse, on top of this my room has very poor circulation, which leads to a lot of dust accumulation around the whole room. This air filter has definitely improved the air quality in my room by an amazing amount, it is literally like walking into the countryside again, the air just feels clean and feels like i can take a deep breath and feel at ease. As you can tell is it very hard to describe, but once I turned this filter on the whole rooms seemed more airy and lighter, a little like opening a windows which has always been closed, but just for the air.Other air filters do not filter down to this small (0.3 microns) and you can tell from the amount of dust and dirt which gets on the filter, even after a few weeks of use!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 October 2019Impressive desktop purifier with great build qualityHaving tried a number of air purifiers, I have been really impressed with this desktop model from Homedics. It is a bit larger than a toaster, so does need a bit of space, but feels well made and looks relatively smart.I was up and running in a few minutes, having checked the manual to ensure I wasn’t missing anything. It really is as simply as plugging in and turning the unit on, then choosing the fan speed, toggling the ioniser feature, and setting a timer at 4, 8 or 12 hours of desired.I tested the unit in smaller rooms of my house, and being the proud owner of two ageing, hirsute Springer Spaniels, soon noticed the difference made by the purifier.Everyone’s experience will vary, but I certainly slept better having set the purifier to run for four hours on the timer before I went to bed. It does not run silent and for me was too noisy to use overnight, even on the lowest fan setting. You can’t immediately feel the cleaner air but I noticed that I was breathing much more easily, and am sure the purifier neutralised the effects of both hay fever and the presence of dog hair all over the house. After two weeks of testing and very heavy use, this purifier has continued to work well and is definitely built to last. Looking at the size of the unit it is better for smaller rooms, but it works very well and I am happy to give it a high recommendation.
Customer questions and answers
- is it good for smokersThe only good thing for smokers is for them to give up smoking - really there is no point trying to mask the air around the room then puffing in the 'cancer sticks' into the body which really defeats the purpose of having an air purifier do the work.
- Most importantly , is it effective for dust mite dust??Yes it will filter out dust in the air, mite dust being larger than pollen or smoke should get trapped by the filter quite easily. Hope this helps answer your question.
- Will it stop dust build-up in roomsMy bedroom still gets very dusty but I only run the HoMedics HEPA Professional Air Purifier on its lowest setting during the night. Maybe if you ran it on its highest setting for an hour or two each day you might stop dust build up.
