SHADE YOURSELF IN STYLE: Shade yourself from the sun when you're relaxing in your garden with this Banana Parasol from Christow. Designed with an overhanging 3-metre canopy. Unlike a normal parasol canopy, there's no support pole in the centre to restrict your space. This makes it perfect for shading rattan furniture, sun loungers, large dining tables and more.
PROVIDES SUPERIOR UV PROTECTION: The canopy is made from extra-tough 180g polyester fabric in a choice of contemporary colours to add style to any setting. It has a UPF 30+ rating to provide superior protection from the sun's damaging ultraviolet rays. It also features an air vent at the top to reduce wind pressure and keep you cool when you're relaxing or dining beneath it.
LOCKING LEVER & CRANK TO EASILY OPEN: A crank handle allows you to open and close the canopy with the utmost ease. Release the locking lever and move the canopy to an overhanging position, then press the lever again to lock the canopy into place. Turn the handle to open the canopy and – voila, it's ready to use. Simply reverse the procedure to close and lower the canopy.
RUST-RESISTANT STEEL CONSTRUCTION: Both the frame and 4.5cm cross-base are made from steel which is heavier than aluminium for superior strength, stability and wind-resistance. All of the parts are powder-coated for enhanced rust-resistance, including the crank handle. The parasol is easy to assemble with minimal parts, clear instructions and full fixings included.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: A 4-piece parasol base is NOT INCLUDED with the banana parasol and is essential for safely using it. The 4-piece base is placed over the top of the 4.5cm steel cross-base to weigh the parasol down. This helps to prevent it falling over in the wind. Every 4-piece base sold by Christow is fully compatible with the parasol and can be purchased separately.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 June 2020A mixed bagThe size of the canopy is very good at providing plenty of shade. The canopy is free to move in the wind which is by design to reduce overall strain on the overall structure. In a light breeze that’s fine but if it’s a bit more windy you can risk losing your head if you’re not careful. The main issue is that in even a moderate breeze the vertical pole will twist round moving the canopy from where you want it to be. This is despite tightening the 2 fixings as tight as is humanly possible (my hand is red raw from doing this). There is also movement further up the pole where the plastic clasp is supposed to lock in place. It simply doesn’t have the strength to do that in a breeze. In summary in zero wind it’s fine. If there is a breeze, which is most of the time, it will eventually spin out of position and need constantly repositioning. Ultimately this makes it pretty frustrating to use and I couldn’t recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 June 2020Looks the partFirst point to mention is that you NEED to buy the base separately, this parasol is huge, it needs to be well weighted down. We bought the recommended base and filled it with water, it's perfect. The parasol looks amazing and provides great shade over pretty much our entire furniture set. The 'elbow' adjusts up and down so that the parasol can go from a straight hanging position to a full tilt. Seems to be great quality, time will tell re weather proofing and rust etc, but so far I am very very pleased with this.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 April 2020Well BuiltBrilliant parasol. Very sturdy, took minutes to assemble. Bought parasol base weights separate (you will need these) Looks fab in our garden, great colour (navy) and nice thick material. Would recommend :)
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 May 2020Very Smart addition to the gardenGood value in comparison to other sites that sell similar. It is sturdy and smart and does what it is supposed to do
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 July 2020Beware wind stabilty is awfulI bought this to enable me to sit and work outside during lockdown. The parasol and its associated supports are made of strong plastic coated steel tubing and easy to assemble. I made a base weighing 100Kg in order to make sure it was stable in the wind. What I missed was that rotational stability is only provided by the friction of two screw heads onto the circumferance of the central pillar. If there is any significant wind the parasol tilts and acts like a sail. The mechanical advantage resulting from the cantilever design makes it inevitable that the whole top structure will rotate around the 'central' pole. Even with numerous modifications of my own, it is necessary to wind it down if there is more than a very light breeze. For what it is worth, I suspect that this design weakness is endemic in these cantilever products.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 July 2020Sturdy and looks good but...The parasol is sturdy and looks good and appears well made. It takes a while to assemble but persevere. In terms of value for money the actual parasol seems to be reasonable but you must allow for the additional cost of the base stabilisers and then if you elect to fill them with sand there is further cost. (if you fill them with water then they must be emptied before there is a likelihood of frost else the containers could split if/when the water freezes). In use the parasol provides good cover but in anything other than absolutely still air then the canopy moves dramatically. Even the slightest breeze can render it unusable. You also need to be aware that the footprint of the unit is quite large and the base weights once filled with either water or sand means that it is not easy to move.Think carefully before you move away from a traditional central post parasol
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 June 2020Not sturdy enough in breezeOnly used today for the first time, there’s a slight breeze at the moment which is moving the Canopy about of the position I wanted it to stay in, frustrating to have to keep getting up and down to re-position , have put it down now and moved indoors! Have ordered some Velcro tape to put on frame and canopy to see if that will help, shouldn’t have to do that as it was quite expensive plus having to buy weights for the stand. It’s lovely looking and a gorgeous Navy Blue. I read most of the reviews before purchase but in hindsight think I would of been better purchasing a different one!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 April 2020to have exact detailsI didn't know anything about these parasols .I didn't know you needed weights to hold it down..we have disabled needs and was shocked when it blew over..did we miss something on the order about the need of weights
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2020OK, but expensive.Does the job, but swings in the breeze. I mounted mine on a dolly with wheels and used patio flags to weigh it down. Much cheaper than buying plastic water filled ones that look ugly and tend to leak.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 April 2021Stylish shadeEasy to assemble by 2 people. Looks good & perfect size for our decking area. We've only had it up once so far and as some reviews have mentioned it does move about in the wind which could cause problems on a breezy day but will hopefully find a way to stabilise it. Remember to purchase weights for the stand.
Customer questions and answers
- Can this be tilted to shade from the sun as it is low and setting in the evening ordoes it always just hang down giving shade below when the sun is upI think it is possible to lower the main arm to create a tilt on the shade. The image of the parasol shows the main arm in its highest position to give a fully extended flat shade. By sliding the arm down the supporting pole would tilt the shade upwards.
- Can the parasol be tilted?Yes it can. the arm adjusts up and down, allowing the parasol to tilt.
- What colour is the frameA grey, dark grey like a gunmetal grey.
- Can the base be bolted down onto wooden decking to avoid the need of weights? Are there existing holes on the metal base?Yes, the holes are already drilled. I personally have used the weights filled with water, and the parasol is very sturdy.
