Depends, you could cut it, but that's rather permanent. Same diameter pole all the way up.
4what sort of weight base does this need ?
Depends how windy it is where you are. Mine is on my patio with about 30 kg on it but it gets very windy here. My weight can go up 45kg (water) but it hasn't needed it yet.

I'm afraid I don't speak German which could have made life difficult but luckily it wasn't too difficult to work out how to put it up.It's up now and looks good and well made.One irritation, there's a black chord with a plastic ball on the end, loosely tied to one of the struts. I don't have any idea what it's for and can't find any neighbours who speak German.I tried to call the 'phone number in Germany shown on the Schneider-Schirmer web site but it doesn't function.I don't like leaving negative feedback on here but I don't have much alternative.If someone contacts me from the manufacturer or UK distributor (if there is one?) I'll be happy to review my review.
