Perfect if you live alone or don't cook too much!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 November 2015
I bought one of these last year and thought I would give it a really good testing before submitting a review. There are just 2 of us in our household and we use this several times a day. It is tall and narrow if you face it towards the sink, fitting quite well onto a standard draining board, or tall and wide if you face it towards the front of the worktop.Pros: Takes up less space because of being 2 tier; very sturdy good quality; will last a long time. A perfect size for a single person living alone. I like the drip tray as it saves cleaning up underneath and would be great if you are placing it straight onto the worktop, but my husband doesn't like it, so I find it very handy to use instead as a little tray for a snack for one, it perfectly holds a cuppa with small plate or bowl of snacks. I like the side supports that you can lean bowls and plates on. The cutlery drainer is handy to have, but better to keep sponges and dishcloths in, as it can tip over with lots of cutlery in.Cons: Rather on the tall side if you are used to a single drainer tray. Not big enough for any saucepans unless you don't need the room for anything else. Not big enough for a whole main meal wash-up for 2 or more beacuse of the saucepan issue, or if you leave a day's wash-up till evening; we always have to use a drying mat beside it as well. The 'rungs' are a bit close together, so forget any thick rustic plates, tho it will slot in plenty of normal plates - apart from very large ones like serving platters, we have a smallish serving platter which only JUST squeezes in before hitting the top tier. This makes it a bit of a pain to take out again as it is facing the tap.The top is wide enough for mugs, saucers and small bowls, but side plates are a bit precarious up there. I would prefer it a bit wider. I would have liked those prongy things sticking out at the sides that other drainers have, to hang glasses and dishcloths on. We very quickly abandoned the cutlery drainer as it took away too much space from the much-needed plate rack.Overall regardless of these issues (for which it loses just one star), it does the job pretty well and I am happy I bought it!

    Good but crooked!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 August 2019
For just over £30 this was a lot to spend on a dish drainer, especially as it was replacing one that cost a third of the price. Had I discovered it sooner I would've kept the cheaper one I already had on the wall and used this as well, but on the worktop instead of the flat one I have (the coffee coloured one you can see in photo 2). From the marketing photos it looked like it could be quite flimsy but its actually very strong. I also thought the screw holes would be more for giving the drainer stability when you have it leant against a wall (similar to when you screw a freestanding bookcase to a wall) but they hold well in my solid wall and I feel comfortable loading it up without worrying that it may come loose. All of this is great and exceeded expectations BUT its crooked! When I put it up I noticed one side wasn't flush to the wall and also that the bottom rack has been fitted unevenly. From my photos you can see that the left side is half a cm higher than the right. As I have fitted this to my eye level its taking quite a lot for me to try and ignore this as its quite annoying. I had this delivered to work which I then had to collect over the weekend with my car (it comes in a huge box) so it was a bit of a faff otherwise I would try and exchange it.

Definitely thinner than the old one
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 September 2018
Why is it nearly impossible to find drainers that you can wall mount? I have such a small kitchen the draining board is part of the cooking work-surface area, so I need to wall mount the plate drainer over the sink to optimise the space. I bought one of these about 30 years ago and have been meaning to replace it for the last 10 as the plastic coating was cracking and peeling off in places, but I couldn't find a replacement anywhere. Eventually it looked so disgusting I had to consider an alternative, any alternative, and then found the exact same overall size on Amazon, hurray! However, the wires are much thinner on the new version and all the slots are the same size - the old one had some thicker slots down one end that were good for chopping boards larger plates, etc. It also weighs about half the weight of the old one, that might be a plus for some but just proves to me they don't make 'em like they used to. Comes with a cutlery container and tray to catch the drips. The tray I find essential, the cutlery drainer is helpful too. Not sure how long this one will last.

    Useful plate etc rack
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 December 2016
This is extremely useful and good quality. I only gave it 4 star as it has 4 less racks than my previous one and they are wider so it takes less plates. The cutlery rack is useful and can be put anywhere you need it. The tray is a good quality and easy to drain is it just slides forward or backwards. I have a small space at the side of the draining board and it fits in perfectly so I still have the full draining board to use. So pleased to be able to get one at last as mine has needed replacing for the last three years. Thank you

    Just what I wanted
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 April 2019
I have been looking for a long time to replace a chrome dish drainer that had gone rusty after long time use. This is the only one that is identical in height and shape that I wanted. The gap between the bottom and top shelf is perfect as I can easily stack my largest saucepan on the bottom shelf and dinner plates. The only thing I would change is the slanted top shelf as a slim tumbler glass will not stand on it, would be better to be flat like the bottom shelf. The drainer and drip tray are easy to wipe over and clean. This a bit more expensive than I would like but it met my needs.

    Just what I needed!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 June 2020
Had exact same one for years and it did need replacing. Looked at various other types but they just weren't right. This one is perfect size and dimensions for the space I wanted to put it in. Can be fixed to wall if required but haven't bothered to do that. Cannot complain - excellent quality and value for money. Hope it lasts as long as previous one did!

Fabulous drying rack. Compact but lots of useful space. The tray catches all the drips and wipes easily.

    plate rack
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 April 2013
my flatmate and I were looking high and low for a a reasonably priced plastic plate rack as our chrome one was rusting (even though it wasn't supposed to). i like its white colour even though my flatmate wasn't (still isn't, actually) sure it would match our granite tabletop. it's been about 4 months and it's still in good condition:) only thing is that the drip tray needs to be cleaned/scrubbed about once or twice a month as ours seem to form green water stains (not sure if it's due to the calcium as we wash our dishes really cleanly) also, we were worried at first that it wouldn't be able to hold all our dishes/cutlery, but it's actually sufficient and may be fine for even 3 people. overally, we're quite happy with the product, but it would be good if the price was cheaper...

    Study, no chips, still white
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 May 2020
I have had it for a few months now and it works well. It has no chips yet, the tray is easy to clean and its still white, Ive cleaned it with the Cif cream. Slightly more difficult to clean the inside of the cutlery holder but not impossible.

Delivery was excellent. The product itself I found disappointing
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 October 2015
Delivery was excellent. The product itself I found disappointing; We bought this to replace an ageing product of similar construction. This one is not as sturdy, the coated wires are half the diameter compared to those on the product it is replacing. Also the two long coated wires across the back have the appearance of been bent out of shape slightly. I will be surprised if this plate rack will last nearly as long as the one it is replacing. Overall it seems expensive and of poorer construction.

Customer questions and answers

  • What is the height between the top and the bottom shelf (i.e. the maximum diameter of the plate I can place on the bottom shelf)?
The height between the top and bottom shelves is about 27cm. But because a plate drops between the wires on the shelf, it will accommodate my baking stone that is about 29cm across.
  • How many plates would it hold many thanks
This will take 23 large plates on the bottom and 23 small on the top tier.
