- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 April 2019COMPANY NOW SAYS THEY HAVE TO BE FILLED WITH SAND AND ARE UNSAFE WITH WATER.I purchased this product as it said the bases could be filled with Sand OR Water. One of the bases leaked water so I asked for it to be replaced. They now say that they are unsafe when filled with water and won't hold a cantilevered parasol. They have changed the advertisement now but I have a copy of the original one. I suggest anyone who wants to fill their bases with water returns the bases because they aren't safe when water filled. This company have been extremely unhelpful and I will be making a complaint to Amazon who incidentally have also been unhelpful .
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 March 2019Absolutely HUGE surface area. Far too big for my small patioGood quality. Arrived on time. No issues there. THe issue is with me and my impulse buy. They did give the measurements but I didn't check before I bought . They are HUGE in surface area. Two together would be the same size as an average coffee table. So they completely swamp my small patio . You cannot walk on them - must walk around - so I have not used them. Instead I just threw the bags of sand that I bought to fill them as my weights (this works perfectly) , and have stored them unused. Note to self : Measure up before buying
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 July 2020Use the right sand!!These bases are perfect for weighing down my new 3m cantilever parasol. However, a tip for buyers. When I bought this I got sharp sand from my local garden centre to fill it with. Unfortunately, sharp sand is wet and coarse and won't pour into the base. You need kiln dried sand from a DIY shop. This is very fine sand and is very dry making easy to pour into the base units. As a tip, I recommend sawing the bottom off a large lemonade (or similar) bottle and using the top half as a funnel. The neck of the bottle fits snugly into the opening of the base weights and makes it easy to pour your sand in.

Saying that it does the job nicely and holds up in strong breeze.Filled with Water rather than sand, they'll empty easier for storage.Bought Parasol to shade a corner sofa, so limited where to position base, reason for 4 stars. It wouldn't be an issue with a 2-3 or 4 piece patio set.

The total weight is then around 80Ibs - according to the enclosed leaflet. We have not tested it in a strong wind yet but, to date, the weights have held the parasol securely.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 May 2019Not quite fittingDisappointed that we had to add water:sand to weigh down each section in retrospect of price paid, also securing together pins did not fit completely once in place, only to were able to be fitted securing them as too short in situ. When a new position for the parasol is selected the parasol base is put down and then the weights can be filled with sand or water. This avoids carrying heavy weights across the garden. In terms of Health ans Safety - it's a winner. So far with fairly medium winds blowing, the parasol has been firm and stable.

Tip: cut the funnel tube short, the sand flows much faster. The company supplies spacer washers which lift the base tube up a little, giving room for the weights to fit under. I damaged one weight and the company immediately sent a replacement. Very good service.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 July 2021Very stable base for cantilever parasolThese give a very stable base for a cantilever parasol. Empty they are pretty light and easy to move around. Once filled with water, each part is pretty heavy. I filled each one in situ using a hose/watering can. They can be held upright to allow this before closing up and placing down on to parasol base. With all four in place, it would take a pretty strong wind/hurricane to move them. The four cover about a square metre, which is quite big, but required to ensure the stability of the parasol. Once in place you can sit a flower pot etc on top to stop base looking so obvious. They do the job well and I’m very happy with them and the speedy delivery.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 July 2021Survived storm Evert!Excellent base for anyone looking to anchor their cantilever parasol. We have two but only 1 needs a heavy anchor base as other is being moved but this do not budge in the storm / lashing rain/ high winds we’ve just had across the South West this week!Worth the money, sturdy and strong and doesn’t budge

- the underside of the base is full of holes. Doesn't this mean that water will flow out when being filled? There are no holes. Water or dry sand is filled through a screw cap, which when screwed tight keeps water or sand permanently in side.
- Just bought my cantilever parasol and it has different length legs, one long, two medium length and one small. Will these slabs fit around the base?Hi Sarah, yes I bought some and they fit fine. They are very heavy though when filled with water.
- Hi did anyone buy these for the rhodes grande parasol- 4m x 3m. would they be sufficient?I bought these for a 3m x 3m square cantilever parasol and they worked fine. To maximise the weight you should fill with sharp sand, which is heavier than water.
