good heater for greenhouse, garage or unheated room
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 October 2016
This review is for the Hylite 500mm 55w Slimline Eco heaterReason for buying.I bought this heater for a seedling area I have to stop the temperature from dropping below around 18 degrees during the winter. I don't always run the central heating when I'm not in the house, and as the building walls are un insulated it can get a bit cold.Down to detailThe heater is Small and compact. It comes well packaged and sufficiently protected from damage in transit.Supplied in the box are 2 mounting brackets/floor stands(depending what you want to do with it) which are made in 2 parts to clip around the tube, and a single screw pulls the 2 sections together. There is a supplied 1.5 meter power cable to fit into the end, and a foam pre-cut spacer to go between the heater and the power lead on insertion. I figure that it is to stop moisture ingress into the lead plug/heater connection if there is moisture in the area. The instructions don't say, but that's my guess. The heater has a built in thermostat, but there is no temperature setting marks (as in 20,21,25 degrees or whatever). So you turn it on low, allow the area to heat up and gradually increase the setting a bit at a time until the desired room temperature is obtained. maybe not the best method, as it takes a bit of time, but it does work if you persevere. Once it's set, just leave it to do it's thing. I have mine keeping the area at abound 18 degrees, and that's good for me.Wattage is stated at 55 watts, but that would be 55 watts if on for a full hour, you probably find that it's less than that as the heater switches on and off. If it's on for a full hour, chances are you need a bigger model for the size of the area you have.Note: the maker states 55 watts, but does not state if that's 55 watts output from the heater, or 55 watts draw from the mains. Either way, it's less than a light bulb of 100watts.. pennies to run.Recommendation: I fitted the heater into an RCD plug for my own peace of mind. If there was a fault with the heater or a fire when I am away from the house, the RCD should cut the power to the heater. For an extra £7-10, I would suggest getting one too. Your choice :)Would I recommend to friend and family... YesWould I buy again... Yes. I actually also bought at 100mm 120W version for another area. Thanks for reading, and I hope some information was of use to you.If it was, I would appreciate you taking a second to click on the yes button below "Was this review helpful to you?

I bought the 55w for my unheated downstairs toilet, which was a bit nippy in the winter. I was unsure at first as to whether I had wasted my money but once it had been switched on max for 24+ hours, my little toilet so longer poses a chilly reception. The guard is essential if there are children about. Came with screws and raw plugs.

Works within a walk in wardrobe
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 December 2017
I have used this product in a walk in wardrobe, which is on a north facing wall of the house. The wardrobe was always chilly (no heating within it), however some items such as clothes and shoes had started to show signs of mould.I have used this on maximum heat setting for several months, with no reoccurring mould issues. This heater is small enough as not to be intrusive, but big enough to promote enough heat/air currents to minimise mold.Would buy again.

Great idea, seems to work a treat.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 January 2019
I have never used one of these before but it works a treat. I changed my boiler last year and now have an airing cupboard without a hat water tank in, so nothing to warm up my sheets. I have this in the bottom of the cupboard and it seems to generate enough heat to take the last dampness out of my sheets after washing them and keep them from being sat cold in the cupboard. I was a bit worried about safety at the beginning, but after using it for 4 months i have not had any problems. Would recommend.

Great little heater that works well
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 February 2018
Bought this to keep the chill away from our toilet room. It takes a while to warm the room but once it has, you can set the thermostat and it will keep the room warm at little cost. The heater comes with two wall/ floor brackets. The cable plugs into the end of the tube but isn’t a firm fit so could pull out if you move the heater or cable a lot. Having said that, we have used freestanding on the floor and the cable has remained intact just make sure you push it in as far as you can

    Arrived on time & is now working a treat. We had a persistent wardrobe damp problem; regular black mould removal; our block's management looking placing airbricks to exterior wall; vents in wardrobe doors & so on - but nothing stopped the problem until we got this! It sits at floor level at back of wardrobe on half it's 90w setting - except in the coldest weather & aside from a tiny corner at the top of area - we have been delightfully clear of all problems. So going to get another for top shelf! ;

    To early to tell.....
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 January 2019
I was quite amazed when this arrived. It was not wrapped or encased in anything except the box it came in with an address label stuck on. The lid was not even stuck down so smaller pieces that were inside could easily have been lost.It is a nice looking heater to use behind our bed as we have a problem with damp in bedroom as it is an outside ground floor wall. Hopefully it will keep the wall dry from now on and dry out the damp that is present but I will have to come back on that one as it may take a while. We are leaving it on constantly but room does not feel warmer in the least but that was not what it was purchased for.

Thermostat is a bit crude and not accurate but otherwise Ok
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 October 2020
Hylite Slimline Eco 300mm 28w Tubular Heater White HHT203The heater is slim and nicely made but the thermostat is the achilles heel of this heater. It is a bit let down by the thermostat which is not marked with any temperature values, just a simple line that gets thicker at one end to show increasing temperatures. This means you cannot set the heater to switch on when the temperature falls below a specific number of degrees Celcius, you can only guess at a setting.Secondly, the heat from the heated section of the tubular body is conducted along to the thermostat end so when the heater comes on, it self heats the tubular body and that causes the thermostat to think the room/cupboard has heated up too so it operates and switches the heater off. This means the heater will switch off far too soon so a minor design flaw. Once the tubular body has cooled down again then the stat will close and the heater will heat up again but this means the thermostat is really regulating the temperature of the body of the heater and not the temperature of the cupboard/room.My last point is not the fault of the heater but my judgement ! I now realise 28W is a very small amount of heat and not enough for what I wanted so my recommendation is to consider buying a bigger size than you may have first thought to ensure it produces enough heat output.

    Great little heater
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 January 2016
not exactly slimline, tbh, I wanted thinner, this isn't any slimmer than a lot of others,it does, however, give out a good amount of heat (without being capable of burning bare skin unless your stupid enoughto leave it there for ages)I use it as secondary heat in a vivarium, the thermostat isn't particularly accurate, but if the heat bulb fails it will switch onand keep the viv warm, , so should be good in a small room etc to keep the frost out and air out the room,,,,its got a few 1 or 2 stars reviews, ignore them, its NOT capable of warming a caravan or room up to a decent warmth, niether is it advertised as such

    Probably better items out there
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2019
I bought this to help with condensation in a mobile home bedroom. Not convinced it does anything. Despite it being a mobile home, the room is probably just too big for this to generate any heat. Would be good in a tiny cupboard. Also the thermostat is a nightmare. The instructions say that once the desired heat is reached, to turn the control knob anticlockwise just until the light goes off and it will regulate that required heat. However if you go so much as a millimetre too far then you've just turned it off completely and heating it up has been a waste of time and electricity

Customer questions and answers

  • What are min and max temperatures on the thermostat please? I need to maintain a temperature of ~23 degrees centigrade
You can't with this model. I rang the manufacturer for you and the temp ranges from 20c -83c but its not done on air temp. You can buy an air temperature reader and then plug the eco into that. If you want to ring the manufacturer of the eco the number is 01352 736120 they don't sell the reader though..
  • How good is this heater?
It depends how you qantify "Good". It plugs in and works. It get to a temperature where the case is just touchable (too hot for delicate hands). The brackets need one screw fitting but can be screwed to the wall or they come with rubber feet. The thermostat is reasonable easy to turn but may be too small for some hands… see more It depends how you qantify "Good". It plugs in and works. • its measurements
well..this may be annoyingly obvious, but it measures 500 millimeters or 50 centi meters or one foot 8 inches approx....hope this helps..
  • I, do you think this will keep one corner of a 6x6 shed intended for rabbits above freezing in the winter?
It does put out more heat than you would expect but I would think you would need to insulate the shed a bit as well. Rabbits are pretty tough little beasts. It seems well made for the price, gets warm to the touch rather than hot even when it's been on for a couple of days so should be pretty safe even in a wooden shed… see more It does put out more heat than you would expect but I would think you would need to insulate the shed a bit as well.
