Patterned wallpaper quality hinges on paper weight, print method, and washability. A heavier base (typically 150–200 gsm) resists tearing during hanging and hides minor wall imperfections; cheaper papers feel thin and tear easily. Look for vinyl or vinyl-coated finishes if you're papering kitchens or bathrooms—they're moisture-resistant and wipeable, whereas standard paper absorbs steam and stains.

Print quality matters: digital printing delivers sharper, more detailed patterns than flexographic methods. Check the repeat length (the distance before the pattern repeats vertically)—smaller repeats (under 32 cm) are easier to hang and waste less; large repeats can mean 20–30% more wastage. Colourfast inks resist fading in bright rooms; budget ranges often use inks that fade within 2–3 years under direct sunlight.
