• Can this lamp also be switched on and off under the shade or only on the floor?
  The model I have can be switched on/off only by the foot switch. There is no on/off switch provided under the shade unless the bulb holder is replaced.

• Hi. Are you able to change the lamp shade or is it only the lamp shade that comes with it that will only fit this stand?
  I am not sure if they give your a choice of lamp shades. It is standard fitting, so you would be able to put the lamp shade of your choice on the stand. The lamp shade is quite attractive though rater plain.   The lamp does require some assembly. Assuming the packing method has not changed since I bought mine, the lamp standard will be delivered in five parts, all pre-threaded with the power cable. Assuming the packing method has not changed since I bought mine, the lamp standard will be delivered in five parts, all pre-threaded with the power cable. Each part easily screws into the next from the base upwards, the base of necessity being the heaviest part, but once unpacked the parts of the standard screw into the base, not the other way round. The parts which make up the standard pole are very light and should present no difficulty regarding handling or assembly. My lamp was intelligently packed, supplied with a clearly worded, illustrated assembly instruction sheet, and took me, a man in his mid-60's with no electrical experience, less than ten minutes to assemble. Upper body strength is not required for assembly: I'd be very surprised if you experienced any difficulty. see less

  The lamp shade is 14 inches. I bought a different shade, which fits perfectly. It's a standard fixture so you should not have a problem with the fitting hole. When the item arrives it will have an additional metal piece to slot in the top. This is for use with the lamp shade supplied, which is quite specific . If you don't want to use the lamp shade supplied then don't slot in the additional metal piece. I bought a second lamp as I was so pleased with it. The arm allows you to move the light into different positions so is very flexible. Hope this all makes sense. see less
