Customer Review
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 August 2018Don't be fooled by the descriptionFor a start the knife is advertised as worth £69.99 being sold at sale price but on first inspection it is blatantly obvious by the finish quality and grind on the blade edge that it is not worth anywhere near this price, this becomes more apparent after looking around Amazon at other companies who appear to be selling the exact same knife with their own branding. My main reason for choosing the knife was the high carbon Damascus Pattern steel but even this is a lie, the blade is actually plain stainless steel with the Damascus Pattern badly etched onto it. Looks good from afar but really disappoints up close, honest advertising goes a long way.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 January 2019Not really damascus steel! It's a very nice knife, and very sharp, but it is NOT damascus steel. The patterns you see have been produced by an engraving process, the pattern of small dots is easily seen with a magnifier. Making damascus steel requires time and skill, this just requires a computer controlled laser. So if you want the real thing, be ready to pay much more. This product description says damascus PATTERN. It's just decorative.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 August 2019It's exceptionally sharp out the box.OK, I am quite behind on reviews but let me just say, this range caught my eye and initially I bought 3, and when they arrived, it was not wow amazing, it was wow nice knife. OK, so that does not sound encouraging, to give you perspective, I have some top of the range knife sets and a few at the bottom and everything in-between. I also bought the amazon knife block set and while it has more knives (the pull), ask yourself are you really going to use all of them at once or not? My money is on not, I use to be a chef so have experience with a range of knives and their respective intended uses. I will tell you this, unless you are in catering, you likely to only ever use 3 knives, 4 and I am being generous. The hard truth is, while I like the amazon set, they good knives, they very unimpressing. Now, this range, I will be honest, just liked the look of them so bought the "3", and while very under whelming when you first see them, they are professionally packages, well shipped and upon opening, all looks good. Now, down to the point, a knife has a way of choosing you, it's a matter of preference and many other things but, the difference is in use. The basic knife set, has many knives, they good for sure, but if you want a decent set of knives that don't cost 100s of pounds, then you have found the set right here. Not entirely my style, but if I had to choose, these would be the one to choose. Also, if you don't like your fingers, then this is the best one to shred them with as I found out washing them when they arrived. I sliced 4 fingers with just a slight bump against the blade trying to pick it up in the sink. If you do like your fingers and enjoy working in the kitchen with a good set of knives, this is something to really consider. Sliced fingers aside, cutting things is not an effort, they thin, light and well made. I did indeed go and buy the complete set, which I agree goes against what I said above, but could not let this one slip without getting the complete set. (Most people won't use more than 3 knives). So, if you want a good set that won't empty your wallet, then go for a paring knife, bread knife (who actually slices bread these days?) and the big carving knife and if you are able, the other big knife, these would cover most requirements. Just my view.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 November 20185* on every level. Thank you! This knife is very very sharp and pretty versatile for day to day usage. Holds nicely, good balance with more control compared to a regular knife due to it’s height of the blade, seems safer around the fingers and a lovely addition to the collection. By far the best knives we’re used. Would have paid double for this Japanese quality. Coming back for more. 5* on every level of service.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 May 2019PERFECT KITCHEN KNIFEThis is pure quality, amazing kitchen knife, pleasure to use, very sharp, detailed design looks great, nice box in comes in too, feels sturdy and weighty in hand when using, reassuring the quality and performance, makes everything easier in the kitchen, bale to use on all sorts, veg, fruits, meats, without any issues, highly recommended to anyone looking for quality knife that performs and looks great too.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2019Looks very nice cutting quality is okThis knife looks really nice and the presentation of it is wonderful no doubt about that. The most important thing for a knife though is (Forged in Fire quote!) "It will cut" and this thing is pretty average. It cuts ok on most things and does a reasonable job and fortunately I got it for less than RRP. Had I paid RRP I may be a tad disappointed with the cutting/slicing quality of the knife as I hardly use it on difficult food and the idea of it having a razor sharp edge, well it just doesnt!Sorry but hence the three stars.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 November 2018GarbageCheap rubbish.Advertised as £69.99 (reduced) joke of the week, supermarket own range, at best.Arrived, sharpish but really poor grind so would be a nightmare to keep sharp. Really poor balance, cheap plastic handle. The attempt at Damascus pattern appears to be etched onto the blade.Comes in a fancy box...
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 April 2021Looks good but poor quality steelThe knife looks good and comes in a nice package but does not keep its sharpness for more than 2-3 days for basic vegetable chopping on a good quality end-grain wooden chopping board. By comparison, a set of 3 knives, I bought for a quid, about 5 years ago from Poundland, still keep their sharpness for about 2 weeks at a time.

Though I've read that final construction takes place in China. I wouldn't let you let that put you as as to quality though as for the money they are very nice. I've bought some very expensive knives over the years and love using them. But when it comes to value for money this knife is hard to beat. Takes and holds a good edge and is well and thoughtfully assembled. Some folk say that it blunts easily. I would wonder if they're using that enemy of kitchen knives everywhere the dreaded glass chopping board. They will dull a knife in no time at all. If you do have one, use it as a plant stand or something and get a set of plastic chopping boards or better yet a quality wooden one. Your blades will thank you for it. see less
- Does this come with a protection sleeveNo, in a presentation case.
- How is the bade on this knife best sharpend, and at what angle is the blade edge? I understand these Japanese knifes are at a diffent angle to WesternI just hone the edge with a steel, it is a narrow angle, probably 14° because of the blades thickness...then strop, sorted.
- Is this knife G10 Damascus layered or laser etched?this is not a vg10 Damascus blade as they are now claiming as at Nov 2020. This is Damascus STYLE - the pattern is laser etched on.
