- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 August 2021A very good quality heavy and sharp chef's knifeThis KBK 8" Chef's Knife comes with a nice presentation box. When not in use, I use the box to store the knife in to prevent it from being blunted in the normal kitchen drawer. The handle is easy to grip, and the blade is exceptionally sharp. The balance of weight is distributed really well. There is a good rocking motion when slicing and dicing through vegetables and herbs. The blade is a little longer than what I personally prefer for a chef's knife, but it has also doubled up as a carving knife for a Sunday roast too, so it is a very versatile blade. It was originally listed at £39.99 in July 2021 but is now (August 2021) it is listed at £29.99 which I think is exceptionally good value for money for this level of quality in design and manufacturing. I can therefore highly recommend this to you.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 August 2021Razor sharp, good quality, chef’s knifeYour browser does not support HTML5 video. This KBK chef’s knife comes in a strong and attractive presentation/storage box with magnetic fastener. The knife is a full tang, meaning the blade extends into the full length of the handle, making it stronger, more resistant to bending and therefore more suitable to heavy duty use than a partial tang. It is quite weighty but feels well balanced in the hand. I like the attractive wood handle but, being wood, it is more likely to become slippery if it gets wet.The blade itself is razor sharp and it passed the paper cutting test with flying colours. In real use it slices and chops vegetables and cuts through meat like the proverbial hot knife through butter. My only concern is how long it will stay really sharp as, after just a couple of uses, close inspection revealed that the absolutely perfectly fine edge had gone at a couple of small places. That having been said, the V profile of the blade means that it should be easy to restore that perfect edge using one of the better knife sharpeners available on Amazon (e.g. the Lantana Smart Sharp Knife Sharpener - Professional 3 Stage Manual Sharpening for Kitchen Knives). In summary, this KBK Chef’s knife is likely to become a firm favourite in our kitchen. A recent ten-pound price drop means that it is now selling at just under thirty pounds, which in my opinion represents very good value for a decent quality kitchen knife.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 August 2021I am definitely a fan of this beautiful and functional knife.I was pleased to try this 'KBK Kitchen Cooking Chef Knife 8 Inch Hammer Finished Blade Full Tang Red Pakka Wood Handle High Carbon Japanese Stainless 58HRC Super Sharp Edged'.1. The knife comes in a nice black presentation box, with a magnetic catch. The presentation box is also enclosed in clear plastic film, to keep it secure and clean. It would make a great gift.2. This a beautiful knife that is also extremely functional. It has a lovely mirror finish blade that has been hammered along the top half for style - the usable part of the blade measures 21cm and the handle 13cms. The stainless steel metal goes through the centre of the two smooth and polished Pakka wood handle parts for extra strength. The total length of the knife is about 34.5cms3. I have tried it out on meat and vegetables and it has an extremely sharp honed cutting edge. It is a great knife to use. A real balanced weight in your hand at 265 grams overall.4. You should only hand wash proper cooks knives so not to blunt the edge or ruin the wood but that is no hardship for me.In summary - I am definitely a fan of this beautiful and functional knife. The current price of £29.99 is good value for money, in my opinion. It looks and feels much more expensive.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 August 2021Sharp Sharp Sharp Knife Which Handles All Cuts with EaaaasseI have a lot of kitchen knives and a couple of large chef knives and I thought they were really good sharp knives until this dream of a knife arrived and I couldn’t be happier with it. It really is a brilliant VERY sharp cutting knife with a comfortable handle. It arrived in a sturdy stylish black box so could be ready to gift. I can’t say I’m a hug fan of the smooth wood design of the red pakka wood handle, but its comfortable when cutting and I can overlook that for how well it cuts (everything I have thrown at it so far even tough cuts of meat). We buy pork belly and slice it really thin for BBQ cuts because the cuts in the stores are too thick and this knife just about cut the time in half with how well it sliced through the belly and with no snags, it just sliced through like it was butter. Like seriously have to keep those fingers right out of the way!Cutting salad bits then of course was going to be a breeze as well as fruit and veg. There is an over emphasis of not leaving the knife in the sink or to be washed in the dishwasher which we wouldn’t do anyway and for some reason to not store in the utensil drawer (we have a knife block in the utensil drawer so that is where ours goes). Love it, can’t fault it and would definitely recommend.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 August 2021Excellent quality, a good weight and super sharp. The knife arrives in a presentation box, the corners protected with small plastic inserts. It looks smart, professional and would make a lovely gift for any cook. The blade is strong and sharp, it narrows from the top downwards to give you a thin sharp edge to cut with.It has a good, substantial weight to it and you can use this to do half the work for you when you are slicing, particularly if you want thin slivers.I tested this for sharpness on a soft, ripe tomato which yielded to the touch, it sliced thinly without tearing the skin and I didn’t need to use the tip to puncture the skin before slicing, the body of the blade was sharp enough to go straight in.To keep it sharp I use a whetstone after each use, using the little and often philosophy to sharpening. It needs hand washing and shouldn’t be left to soak in water as it has a beautiful wooden handle which would be damaged if you did so. Dishwashers are too brutal for such a sharp blade so it should not be put in one.It is reasonably priced for such an impressive knife and I am very pleased to add it to my kitchen “armoury”.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 August 2021KBK Kitchen Knife Cooking Chef Knife 8 Inch Sharp for Now What About Later? Not the cheapest but also not the dearest for a kitchen knife.I’m not giving this five stars yet the reason being it’s not right to. Hence the four stars.I’m not sure how long the blade will stay razor sharp as it is just now when new.Any knife you first get seems sharp and you get all happy with a knife that makes chopping chicken, steak etc along with veg an easy job.So yes time has to be given with it.It’s not a heavy knife to hold and the pattern on the blade quite pleasing. The wooden handle give a comfortable grip.It comes boxed but no protective cover for putting over the blade which I think might be a good idea.Yes it’s in a box but nothing to get they excited about really.Handwash only so not to make an bluntness happen to blade.I will be honest saying the jury is still out on this as to if it will make a five star or not at a later date.As think we all remember buying a knife saying how pleased we were with it for a few weeks later to find ourselves sharpening it and wondering why we paid so much for it to go blunt as quick.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 August 2021Fantastic qualityI do a lot of cooking and have a selection of knives I use on a regular basis, this chef’s knife is now a favourite. It comes in a black box with the sellers logo printed on in. Inside the knife is protected in a black foam lining. I will keep it in this box to protect and prolong its sharp blade. The knife itself is made of Japanese steel with a half hammered blade and a wood handle. It feels very well balanced and comfortable in the hand. The blade is incredibly sharp and makes easy work of chopping vegetables and slicing meat. I like to cook stir fries and this blade makes it so easy to get fine slices of chicken or beef. As with all good knives they need a little care to keep them sharp, such as not putting in a cutlery drawer or in a dishwasher. I hand wash my good knives and store them separately, this one will be staying in its box when not in use.Overall, this is a great quality, incredibly sharp knife at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 October 2021Value money at £30s! Gorgeous, sturdy, efficient knife, comes nicely boxedI think this is very good value money at the current price £30s! It's really gorgeous looking, sturdy, efficient knife, comes nicely boxed.I really like the distinctive pebble patterning on the side of the blade. I think practical items should also be beautiful ones whenever possible and this is.It's very sharp and has sufficient weight and size really cope well with heavy duty chipping. If we place it carefully in position we can store it on our magnetic knife board despite the angled design of the blade as our board has a very strong magnet. You shouldn't clean it in the dishwasher as this will damage the handle, which is also a thing of beauty. Besides, a good rinse and a careful wipe clean is sufficient.Happy with overall quality, robustness, performance and aesthetic.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 August 2021Not as sharp as expected. This knife looks gorgeous and is advertised as super sharp, sadly that's not what I found. I expected the knife to slice through items like an onion as if I was cutting butter but I had to use a fair bit of force. I found the same with pretty much all firmer veg... potatoes, carrots and such like. For £29.99 I expected a much smoother cut with no major effort, I have a knife that was a fiver that cuts with less effort than this one. It does slice through chicken OK but when I was cutting up liver for my dog I had to 'saw' through certain parts rather than just cut.The knife is boxed beautifully which makes gifting easy. I'm hoping I just have a badly sharpened knife and all others are better than mine. After my experience though I wouldn't buy one as a gift nor for myself.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 August 2021Sharp but not well madeThis knife is a real mix -Firstly presentation is superb, supplied in a nice box which sets it of really well. Then you take out the knife and study it. My main concern is that, although sharp, there’s little blade protection other than a small plastic bit stuck on the point and the square end of the blade. What about when it’s in use? You don’t keep a blade like this stored in a box, so without a blade protector there’s a real danger of cut hands/fingers. On closer inspection, you notice that the wood handle is not finished well. On mine, there was a roughness along the top section with a small gap in one place between the tang of the blade and the wood of the grip. This is very prro for a knife and a great place for germs to gather. On the whole this looks good but fails once out of the box
