What are the knife handles made from?
The black handle materials in all of our knives are made of ABS, which stands for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, is a common thermoplastic polymer. The material is very tough and resilient, has high impact strength, good chemical resistance, and is BPA Free, non-toxic, and taint free. ABS is free from heavy metal stabilizers such as lead which are often used in the processing of other plastics including Poloxymethylene plastics which is often used in cheaper branded knife handles.
What are the knife blocks made of?
The blocks in all of our knife sets are made from the light coloured and medium density hardwood from the Para Rubber Tree (Hevea Brasiliensis) which belongs to the Maple species of tree, and one of the most durable woods used in manufacturing. It is strong, flexible and is the ideal kitchen block, unlike some other woods the Para Rubber Trees are grown in special plantations, ensuring our forests are protected.

Perfect for the average mum cook but not professional use apparently
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 July 2020Good value, great knives but don’t do well in dishwashers!These are super sharp, comfortable, easy to use and quite good value for money. My only real disappointment was that I don’t like washing up too much so deliberately went for something that was dishwasher proof and they rusted and marked in no time. I clean and rinse aid and add salt to my dishwasher every week, the settings are set so the levels are right and I don’t get my glasses going all cloudy and squeaky so it is not the functionality of the dishwasher. I also don’t leave them wet and empty the dishwasher pretty much straight after it is done and if there was any moisture on the knives then I would dry with a tea towel. Therefore it is not my fault, they are just sadly not dishwasher proof. If you didn’t have a dishwasher or was happy to hand wash then they are a very good buy but that feature was important to me!

This knife set does the job far better than you'd expect for the price point. They're not too good to be true, (which is kind of comforting in it's own way) but they're well above average.Kitting out an unfurnished flat all in one go left little room for fancy knives in the budget, but I hate waste, too. So I'm glad I don't see myself chucking these away.

As for initial review, I can say these are very very sharp! As my finger tip found out! ?.Very comfortable grip, look really well made and probably the sharpest knives I've used. I used to use dull knives, but now I appreciate the quality of good knives in the kitchen.Good handles and very easy to clean.Not full five stars for me as they slightly start to get stained with use after a few weeks even though I don't put them in the dishwasher.Shame they don't provide a stand...

The reason is not strictly they are not easy to hold, it is that the handles are a little short and I do not have particularly large hands. I feel I could slip off the handles quite easily. Apart from that they are good looking, seemingly good quality knives.

We haven’t had them long but we are very impressed so far. They are very sharp and great at cutting through thick or tough pieces of meat with no problem. They come packaged in a nice box, with a plastic tip protector and a cardboard sleeve to cover the sharp bit. I would recommend these knives.

To rub salt in the wound most of them were used, rusty or damaged in some way! Needless to say they were returned for credit.

Generally speaking, are they dishwasher-proof, well yes and no, i always put mine in the dishwasher but the caustic compounds of dishwasher detergent isn't good for the handles, they will lose a bit of colour as a result. The stainless steel in the blades will be perfectly fine provided like most stainless steel products that can touch in a cutlery tray, you don't leave caked-on food scraps, that can stain the steal. Rinsing the pieces off before you put them in the dishwasher, especially if you don't run it immediately, will help avoid this. Storing dirty cutlery in your dishwasher for days will stain it eventually. Washed and wet cutlery in the dishwasher overnight will add to the chance of staining. Opening the door when the cycles finished will assist drying or take it out and wipe it dry straight after the program finishes. Over-packing the cutlery basket means staining. Items don't touch each other. It's important that stainless steel and silver-plated or copper items don't come into contact, as the chemical reaction with hot water and dishwashing detergent can cause discolouration. see less
