    Not quite a fan
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 June 2021
Dp04 RRP £399. Don't pay anymore. The fan is ok for the RRP luckily I paid the RRP on Amazon store but unfortunately Amazon don't seem to sell Dyson now unless it is a third party who wants to charge ridiculous amounts. As for the product only had it for a few months now and it's ok unfortunately it's that price as with all Dyson products the product is good but not amazing or WOW which you really want for the price. The fan blower only from the side and top slot even on 10 isn't powerful enough and on 10 it's loud. Nothing in the centre area which really is where you want the air flow. Night setting fan on for couple hours then whole system shuts off and have to setup fan again in the morning which is impractical for allergy sufferers in the night. Air circulation it does ok absorption of smells ok reducing dust particles I've noticed so that is nice. Also doesn't go through electricity like a normal fan will but it's not as powerful so that's probably why it's good on electric. Also you be running it over the cooler months as well to help with your allergies and replacement cost of the filters is not cheap£70-80 at the moment every 6-8 months so more expense there. So not exactly energy efficiency for the planet is it. But if you have allergies I suffer those I have to admit I've noticed reduced sore eyes nose issues and throat in the mornings and also sleeping better as well. Is it the Dyson air purifier don't know but could be and I have taken a shine to it I must admit. If it was £299 definitely give the Dyson air purifier DP04 five star's it's not perfect but at £400 it really should be. The plus points rotation nice and smooth, you can tilt it up or down, the display, the remote, looks nice, easy to place, seems to work eliminating the pollution particles, reverse fan option, air circulation.

OK while it worked but dead within 3 years
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 May 2021
This was a good fan whilst it lasted - cooling was consistent if not super powerful, and the filter seemed to work well. The metrics via app were a nice touch, if weirdly fiddly (it often made you log in again). However, 2.5 years on and the unit just stopped working, The triangle of doom symbol. I bought new filters, I cleaned it out, I left it to rest for ages. Nothing. Sent it back to Dyson for what was going to be a £75 repair (ouch), only to be told there's nothing they can do other than recycle. Total shame. I won't buy complex Dyson products again - this isn't the first item that's failed me like this from Dyson. It seems their simple products like fans endure, but anything complex fails too soon for me. For over £400 this should have run longer than 2.5 years.

    Really decent gadget, great fan
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 August 2018
I think some reviewers may have misjudged its capabilities. This fan is more than suitable if you need to cool down working at a desk or by your bedside as you sleep; generally good for medium range. The product is by no means an A/C unit that will cool an entire house, only what its directly blowing at of course. The price is high but that's generally true for most of Dyson branded products. The air filter, humidity level and pollen/particle count extra's are clever little additions that I appreciate.

A great fan for hay fever sufferers
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 August 2018
1st thing I have to say is I was given this fan by a third party for free for testing and evaluation purposes. There are fans then there is this fan, it’s fantastic it looks great for starters but then there are all the other features,I suffer from hay fever and in this hot weather sleeping with the window open is a must but I would suffer terribly in the night waking up with a stuffy nose and watery eyes, now I sleep with the windows closed and use this fan and its great, cools beautifully and removes pollen and dust from the air all of which leads to a great night’s sleep, the night mode is useful as it cuts the front lights and puts the fan on a low noise setting (that keeps my wife happy as she doesn't like noise in the bed room).I know this unit is not an air conditioner but I tend to put it on setting 10 in the bedroom for an hour before I go to bed with the door closed then I turn it to night mode and even in this recent heat wave I sleep like a log and at times the room even get a little chilly, and I am fine with that. The fan can auto rotate to almost 360 degrees and tilts up and down, the airflow is also programmable so you can direct it virtually anywhere and all the functions can be carried out with the supplied remote control. With this fan having no fast spinning blades I can leave it switched on in the living room when the grand children are visiting without the worry of them sticking a finger or other foreign body into it.the one thing that is a bit awkward is the power supply is built into the plug and it is quite large so if like me you want to stand the fan on a chest of drawers with a socket behind then the drawers won’t push flat against the wall as the plug is so big so you will need a small extension lead (but that's no big deal). All in all I think if you have hay fever or similar then this fan is a must have and I would have absolutely no hesitation at all in recommending it, my son has even ordered one after seeing ours in action.

    High Pitched Noise
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 June 2019
I've had 3 of these now, each one has developed a high pitched noise after a few months. It's highly irritating when using it at night, can sometimes be heard over the TV as well. Dyson have replaced the unit each time which is great but I would like my money back. If you search the internet you will many people having this issue.

Expensive fan of questionable build quality but reasonably quiet
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 July 2019
I am not normally a huge fan of Dyson products as the are usually overpriced, unreliable and very noisy. I decided to give this unit a try as I am tired of flimsy desk fans. It certainly ticks the first box on overpricing, but I managed to find one 12.5% cheaper and then a retailer voucher offering me a further 20% off my purchase to bring it down to a still fairly hefty price. The unit was delivered in a massive box and consisted of the unit itself, with filter doors, power supply, remote control and manual.I was surprised how flimsy it was and I think this will end up ticking the box on my expectation of unreliability.Assembly was a case of attaching the flimsy filter doors and plugging in the power supply and switching on with the remote. The one good thing is that this unit has turned out to be an exception with regards to noise and is reasonably quiet even at the faster speedsThere's few different settings to choose from and all kinds of information if you use the app, but at the end if the day it’s a fancy overpriced fan which I think will drop to bits in time. However it does the job and I like the fact it’s not too noisyI wouldn’t buy another

    Clean air
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 April 2019
I've got one and ok it's not a powerful fan BUT it clears the air of any impurities and thus cleans the room of germs etc. A normal bog standard fan will keep you cool yes but it just spreads all the germs around the room. The Dyson cleans the air and if you have clean air you don't need as much powerful fan. Clean air is much more important. It's a thumbs up from me

great design but factor in that the filters are £50 ...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 July 2018
I didn't buy from here but a high street store for the extra year guarantee offer and returned it within a day, great design but factor in that the filters are £50 to replace first and its not good as a fan. Like the other poster I found by old Hunter century desktop 12" fan kicked out more air with less noise. I had to have the Dyson at 10 and that was after connecting it to my Wi-Fi and updating it. The remote is great and is magnetised and sticks to the top of the fan feature set is great, as a fan though its a very expensive gimmick. Night setting would not melt an ice cube as hardly any air comes out and my air quality was good it turns out. If you want an Air purifier get one only if you really suffer from allergens and hay fever, otherwise get a cheap fan that that blows air without sounding like a plane taking off.

    Don’t waste your money
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 July 2018
Don’t waste your money. Expensive ornament. Fan no good in hot weather we’ve been having. Level 10 (highester/fastest setting) is very noisy. Have to use old desk fan in conjunction. Didn’t but from here but from high street and can’t get refund. Gutted. Nice design, app and remote good but still waste of money.

Customer questions and answers

  • Is the filter washable
I don’t think you can wash it but I tend to hoover the dust off the outside of mine
  • does it have a tilt function
    Yes it does
  • Does it heat as well as cool?
It does not heat. Technically it doesn't cool either. It simply blows air which feels cool to the skin.
  • When the filter clogs up, how much does it cost to replace it?
You can get cheaper ones from eBay that of unbranded. You can also hoover the filters which will make them last a little longer
