Customer Review
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 June 2020Like it enough to buy twoI only write reviews for really bad products, good products or products I think deserve a mention. I was looking for an item that would be good to keep my 85 year old parents cool in the warm weather we're having. They have a traditional fan but these either blast your head off or at best waft and distribute the warm air already in the room. The blast always hurt my eyes over time. So I thought I'd look for a better alternative. An air conditioner was out of the question for 2 reasons 1. The fitting and 2. Running costs. So the option I chose was an air cooler. This one caught my eye because it looked stylish and was a well known name. Had it about 3 weeks and the weather outside has been in the 20's c / 80f. I'm quite impressed with this air cooler. It's not an air conditioning unit so don't expect a cold room with what you get from an air conditioner. First of all what you get is the air cooler unit a remote control 2 cooler blocks you can freeze in your freezer instruction manual and box. The idea of a air cooler is to cool the air in the room with cool water don't worry it doesn't blow water out but the cool water pumps around inside and it's this cool water that helps the air being blown to be chilled unlike a traditional fan that only blows the warm air through its blades into the room. Air coolers also have a filter in the back that filters out any dust or bits so what comes out of the front is clean air free of dust or dirt particals in the air/room. There is a box in the back of the unit that can be removed to enable you to take it to the sink to be filled with cold water ice and the cooler blocks supplied. Alternatively just use water but the colder you make the water the cooler the effect will be. The unit hold 5 litres. When inserting the water container back into the back of the unit ensure the suction unit is up out of the way otherwise you will find the water container won't slide in. If its in the way slide the water container in until it stops pull out slightly poke your finger in and push the suction unit up whilst pushing the water container in. When the container is fully in you will hear a click. When it's operating the water is pumped around the unit and you will hear a slight waterfall sound, this is normal. The fan in my opinion actually makes less noise than a traditional fan. If the water runs out the unit automatically carries on working with fan only and stops sucking/pumping. It also has programmable timer the option to turn on/off the water system option to turn on/off oscillator which distributes air flow left and right. It also has programmable night mode that automatically fluctuates air flow /distribution for a more relaxed feel. The unit is on wheels which is very helpful. The power cord could be longer but that's my opinion and of course you could use an extension lead. It's ideal for keeping cool when your upto 15 feet away. If you have a bigger room move the unit closer to you or use 2 units. I bought this for my parents but love it so much bought myself one.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 July 2019Decent but not brilliant. This product works much like a tower fan with the added benefit of the water reservoir cooling the air it blows out, you can add ice packs to the water to cool it further as well however if you're looking to this for cooling down a room as a whole then it's not that good.I've found it'll blow cool air with 5 ice packs inside up to 7 feet but beyond that range it's effect is negligible. It works a lot better than just a tower fan alone though. Also I've found the reservoir when full is tough to get back into its slot and that's without the ice packs inside.Overall its decent but the cooling effect won't blow you away.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 July 2019Quality product. BUT, no cool air at all (read about these machines use in humidity - they don't)Quality product with excellent customer support. However, very poor instructions. They need addressing. Had to ring support as there was no information on the parts - so for example some sponge things, what I thought were filters were actually random packaging in the tank. There was no info on the thing on the back that soaks the water up so I didn't know if you had to leave it to soak water up first nor did I know what maintenance and cleaning here were involved. Also, had it on ALL night and the air wasn't cool at all even using cold water and the ice packs it comes with. Just researched that these coolers don't succeed in cooling when room is humid as the hot wet air of room simply heats the cold are leaving machine instantly. So basically, I'd bought an expensive to run tower fan. As a fan alone its not worth the money and I'm therefore returning it. For a dry hot room apparently these things can be really good. But in UK it's humidity we battle on hot nights. Quality product though w/remote etc. Just a shame it didn't even seem to give out cool air even with hand right up to it. £15 fan did a better job, certainly more powerful air moving.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 August 2019AIR COOLER NOT AIR CONDITIONERAs an air cooler, this machine works fine although it is somewhat small for a standard air cooler.( It is not and does not cool like an air conditioner and is unlikely to cool an entire smallish room down more than 1-2 degrees. An air conditioner requires a vent hose hole through your wall/door. )An air cooler like this one blows air through water so the colder the water, the better it works.I kept two empty milk cartons of water in the fridge and alternated them. You could also use ice cubes to cool the water.I found It works best l when placed close to you and pointing at you. It's also quite light and portable.I found it useful during the recent heatwave to carry it into the bedroom and point it at the bed about three feet awayI'm not sorry I bought it. I've had air coolers before and this one works as well as those-although on the small side.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 October 2019SUPER PRODUCTIVENo issues as works well.Only thing:How can I order replacement filters please? It seems one of the most important parts of this machine is the filter itself:if the filter breaks especially during cleaning of it, the whole machine cannot function effectively I assess purifying/dehumidifying/humidifying the air.My filter has split down the middle but until I can know how/where to buy a replacement filter I am forced to continue using this broken filter. How,where can I buy replacement filters? The Pifco website offers little help.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 June 2020It is not an air conditioner but.....It does what it says on the tin! I bought this as I needed something to reduce the room temperature in a child's room in hot weather. I didn't want a pipe out a large open window at night with young children who like climbing to look out window. It does lower the room temperature by 4-5 degrees with a blind lowered to cut out afternoon sun. I've found it's more effective if you have the room door open or a small window open a crack and the room temperature will not rocket. Usually in hot weather our childs room temperature is 30+deg but this year it's been 25-26 degrees. I can't say how effective it would be in larger rooms but it's pretty good in a small bedroom. It's certainly not as good at reducing room temperature as an air conditioning unit but it is better than a normal fan. I put in ice packs as well as ice into water. It lasts 12+ hours on medium speed setting which is enough until I get home from work. It's not quiet by any means but it's not annoying either. The only flaw for me are how bright the lights are on the display...there is no option to dim or turn off lights. It's worth the money if your limited on space as it's fairly compact and if you're not keen on windows open at night.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 May 2020Noisy and frustratingThis is a pretty noisy unit - it's on a nice level surface but the fan sounds like it's cheap and clattery. You fill the water, but there's a little thing inside the drawer (it's at the back) that stops you being able to put it back in easily without some finger acrobatics to shove the dangling thing out the way each time, which means you have to pull the whole unit out every time you want to re-fill it so you can be crouched down at the back to fiddle it back in.It does blow some pretty cool air with ice and water used, but not mind-blowing. The vents also don't point upwards - I'm guessing to stop water condensing on the blades, but this means that this large noisy thing has to really be at body height to have full effect, which means putting the noise at head height if you're at a desk like me.Does it cool? Yes, in a limited way. Am I glad I bought it? No.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 September 2020Got me through the very hot weatherI bought this during the terribly hot weather recently, as my bedroom fan was just not cooling me down sufficiently, and I was feeling quite ill sometimes in the daytime too. Now I have both this and my tower fan on most nights.I gave this item four stars because it has a few downsides. If the weather isn't extremely humid, and you fill the water tray and add the ice packs, the resulting air that comes out is definitely cooler than the surrounding air by a degree or two. If it is too humid I don't think it really works, just adds to the humidity. However, It made my nights much more comfortable during that really hot spell. I took to filling the water bath and putting it in the fridge in the morning so the water was already cold when I inserted the ice packs - because two thin ice packs would quickly melt in room temperature water - therefore I think making them hardly worth using. The first night I must not have put enough water in because it ran out of water at 5 a.m. and then started emitting some loud beeping noises, which woke me up, and I had to manually switch off the humidifier function. That didn't happen again but filling up, emptying, freezing, and generally faffing around with the water bath everyday was a nuisance, and now that the weather has cooled down I'm only using it as a fan so I don't bother filling it with water at all and I keep the humidifier function switched off - which is fine. The fan itself is quite loud. It doesn't bother me too much because I am hard of hearing and and I find it like soothing background noise, but I imagine it would bother some people. It is also quite low to the ground if you're looking to use it in bed. For me it's not really a problem, as I have a wooden ottoman at the base of the bed, so I simply stand it on there. It has castors so if you were using it in a different room you could wheel it around easily enough, but I found it too heavy to carry up and down stairs each day, so I left it in the bedroom. I also stuck electrical tape over the function lights which were horribly bright, and lit up the room at night. There seems to be no option to switch them off.All that being said, if you can't afford to shell out for an actual air conditioner - which I certainly couldn't - this fan does help, and does cool the air down as it blows it on you.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 June 2021The Good and BadRoom started at 28.8c and 44% humidity. With ice packs and ice cubes I found that:1. Air coming out of the cooler was 25.6c. The maximum effective cooling range was around 2.5m.2. Ambient temperature did not drop. Humidity rose to 52%.3. The unit rattles which can get quite annoying. Putting a 1.2kg weight on top of the unit resolved this.4. It's noisy. When using in fan mode it's 2-3 times louder than a dedicated fan. Also the night and natural modes are so distracting it's unusable. All in all it does cool you down significantly more than a regular fan but you do need to be in front of it as it won't cool the ambient air around you.

- What's the power consumption of the fan and the overall machine? If it's 20W or less then that's not much at all to cool a small room/office....I don't know the power consumption but the fan is quite strong, however it doesn't cool much if humidity is high - no more than any fan - if the air isn't too humid it cools a bedroom sized room petty well.
