The high pitched noise is annoying enough to interfere with my sleep.I called Fellowes support to enquire and was pleasantly surprised -- the lady on the phone knew exactly what it was. It is the PlasmaTRUE feature of the unit where it electrically charges the air to better collect particles, or something of the sort. It can be turned off: after powering on wait a few minutes for the unit to finish calibrating, then press the star/shuriken icon on the display panel (#7 in the manual) and hold for a few seconds until the indicator goes off. This solves the issue for me and now I can keep the unit on overnight. see less
