- If there is no ice pack and the water is recycled, what stops the water getting warm?Put simply, it doesn't, but it matters less than you think. The water has a greater specific heat capacity than the air so it can absorb more heat from it and you'll still get a noticable improvement, for much of the time. The water has a greater specific heat capacity than the air so it can absorb more heat from it and you'll still get a noticable improvement, for much of the time. The issue comes if you fill the 'tank' to the top and leave it going without a means for changing the air in the property (e.g. upstairs) as eventually the water will get warm to the point of then making the air warm and humid, which isn't an improvement. I manage this by not filling it up too much in one go, so it's being regularly topped up with cold water and ensuring there's a couple of open windows somewhere to aid the air being changed. With those measures in place, I've had no issues at all and would recommend this. see less
